Tonight, I shall depart from the land of the tekkies and wander into a dark place full of virally infected Vampires. Already my blood pressure has started to rise! Will Smith is going to be starring in a remake of 'The Last Man On Earth'. Hollywood has a venerable tradition of the remake.
Vincent Price starred in the original in 1964, two years before I was born. The movie is black and white but it looks and feels quite good and has that early US movie over-the-top sound track which works quite well in my opinion. The movie is Public Domain now so there's no piracy in showing it. Here are part 1 and 2
This was followed up in 1971 by The Omega Man, a movie I am very fond of. Charlton Heston stars and has that rugged no-nonsense look but feels out of place in the 'free love' of the 1970's when the movie was made. The movie mixes the original story and began the cheap-and-cheerless trend of colored contact lenses to indicate 'other' status. This has been used, over and over and over again because it's cheap! Here's the trailer. I really like and recommend this movie. Track it down if it's new to you!
But first part 2 of the last man on Earth.
Boy, haven't movie promo voices changed! Can you imagine the new version of this movie being promo'd by a guy with this voice?
Will Smith has starred in some very good SciFi to date imo. I Robot was excellent. Hopefully, The Last Man On Earth will bring home the bacon too.
The new movie will be known as 'I Am Legend'.
